At the University of Rhode Island's 132nd Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 2018, about 3,300 undergraduate and 750 graduate students became the University's newest alumni.

To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have a semester grade point average of 3.50 or better and must have completed successfully all courses for which they were registered.

The following local residents were among the 1,127 students who received their degrees in May as part of the Class of 2018

Eastern's annual graduation ceremony was held at the XL Center in Hartford on May 15, with more than 12,000 family members and friends cheering on their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, as 1,105 undergraduates and 85 graduate students received their diplomas.

224 students have been named to the Plymouth State University Dean's List for the Spring 2018 semester. To be named to the Dean's List, a student must achieve a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.69 during the spring semester and must have attempted at least 12 credit hours during the semester.

Select students have been named to the Spring 2018 Dean's List at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. Full-time students who complete 12 or more credits per semester and earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher are placed on the Dean's List that semester.

The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce the Spring 2018 Dean's List. The students represent nearly all of Rhode Island's cities and towns, all six New England states, New York and New Jersey, and many other states and countries.

On May 12, Eastern Connecticut State University Social Work majors were inducted into Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha, the national social work honor society.

Twenty-four students spent two weeks studying at the College's campus in Rome, Italy, as a member of the SOPHIA program (SOPHomore Initiative at Assumption College). The group, accompanied by College President Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., spent their time exploring various parts of the city, visiting and learning about historic landmarks, including the Coliseum, Roman Forum, Spanish Steps and Saint Peter's Basilica in their search for a deeper connection between their spiritual, personal and professional lives.

To be named to the dean's list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20 percent of their class in their respective college or school.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently had 21 students named to the Little East Conference (LEC) Winter All-Academic Team. The team is comprised of 140 students from the eight institutions of the LEC conference.

The following students were named to the Castleton University Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year. To qualify for this academic honor, the student must maintain full-time status and a semester grade point average of 3.5.

The Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team for the fall 2017 semester has been announced, and Eastern Connecticut State University is well represented. With 35 student-athletes named to the team this semester, including a record 13 members of the women's soccer team (the most by any institution in any sport), Eastern ranks second among conference institutions in honorees.

The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's track and field teams are amid their indoor seasons, which run from December 2017 to February 2018.

The Center for Early Childhood Education at Eastern Connecticut State University announced this December that "Animal Kingdom Mega Pack" by Animal Planet has been named the 2017 TIMPANI (Toys that Inspire Mindful Play and Nurture Imagination) Toy. Six Eastern students fulfilled integral roles for the nationally acclaimed study.

The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's cross country teams both had seasons to remember in fall 2017. For the women, this was the first season in 25 years they placed in the top half of the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship. The program also won its first LEC Championship this year. For the men, this was their fourth season in a row competing in the regionals, where the team put together a formidable performance.
